The Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyard, or
EMILY, is a self-powered, remote-controlled lifesaving buoy that can cut through rough waters at up to 22 miles per hour. It was recently used to rescue nearly 300 Syrian migrants from drowning in the waters off the Greek island of Lesbos.
