Pandemic CX. In 2020, Trojak stepped up to lead Medallia’s sup- port for the government’s pandemic response, which included partner- ing with the White House’s Corona- virus Task Force to identify ways
to help agencies better understand the public’s needs. He led customer experience initiatives related to the response efforts of the American Red Cross and the International Chamber of Commerce, focusing on outcomes and ensuring that Medallia provided its services pro bono. While other companies were cutting staff, Trojak grew his team by a factor of three, which enabled Medallia to pivot quickly to meet the federal govern- ment’s most pressing needs.

Getting groups to innovate. Vega’s leadership has enabled multiple transformational efforts at the VA. Notable examples include the Agile Design and Production Transforma- tion Initiative, which tapped the VA’s 3D printing network to help meet the demand for personal protective equip- ment during the pandemic. He has also been instrumental in an initiative that has nearly eliminated diabetic foot ulcers and major amputations among at-risk veterans. The platform has been scaled across 40 VA medi-
cal centers, where it has been shown to reduce emergency room visits by 40% and hospitalizations by 52%. Vega sees innovation as a group exercise, his colleagues say, and he fosters col- laboration across disciplines, organi- zations and hierarchies.

Unlocking the VAULT. Under Vid- rine’s leadership, the Air Force devel- oped the Visible, Accessible, Under- standable, Linked and Trustworthy self-service data platform in 2019. Its true power, however, became clear
in 2020 when the pandemic hit and a large portion of Air Force personnel began working remotely. Employees can easily access VAULT and use its capabilities regardless of location. The platform has also been a critical enabler of COVID-19 reporting efforts. Last year, its users grew from 200
to over 2,000 without any additional developers or staff. With a focus on automated capabilities, Vidrine has worked tirelessly to continually popu- late VAULT with new features, which are rolled out every two weeks.

Championing Cloud 2.0. Thanks to Wagner’s leadership, Microsoft Fed- eral played a key role in the govern- ment’s response to the pandemic by ensuring network resiliency, support- ing Operation Warp Speed for vaccine development, responding to the Solar-
Winds hack and other challenges. His priorities have been advancing critical cloud technologies and positioning Microsoft Azure as a mission-focused cloud offering. He was an advocate inside Microsoft for ensuring that
the Azure government cloud was a technical equal to the Azure commer- cial cloud. Under Wagner’s leadership, Microsoft Federal won the CIA’s Com- mercial Cloud Enterprise contract and the Defense Department’s initial Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure award.

Solutions and silo-busting. Wagner championed public- and private-sector collaboration on procurement best practices and innovations as the gov- ernment lead for the Periodic Table of Acquisition Innovations. He contribut- ed topics and example artifacts to the knowledge database, along with the key descriptors that make it useful. He drew on his DHS experience and resources to populate the periodic table and also encouraged colleagues from other agencies to contribute to and use it. From leading weekly calls with project organizers to hosting webinars and educational sessions, he continues to demonstrate the project’s value to thousands of users across government.
