easier for DOD agencies to move to the cloud by partnering with VMware. VMware is a natural fit for milCloud 2.0 because the vast majority of all the defense agencies that have virtualized their on-premises workloads have done so with VMware. A native, on- demand milCloud 2.0 VMware environment dramatically simplifies migrations, lowers the risks involved in cloud adoption by eliminating the refactoring of applications and workloads, and allows users to leverage familiar VMware solutions for a consistent operating model across their enterprises.
Cost-effective, resilient virtual machines
The security and ease of use of milCloud 2.0 have quickly demonstrated its value for our mission partners. During the pandemic, many defense employees had to operate away from their typical duty stations, and that experience further highlighted the advantages of being in a scalable and secure cloud environment.
Furthermore, because DOD agencies face budgetary constraints every year, affordability is a key consideration for milCloud 2.0, along with zero transaction or bandwidth fees. Mission partners have access to compute, storage and network cloud services that are priced at parity with other commercial options and include updated versions of VMware’s licensing for vSphere, vCenter, NSX and vCloud Availability for high availability across two separate DISA data centers.

VMware technology is simplifying the move to DISA’s milCloud 2.0 for defense agencies
THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN the Defense Information Systems Agency’s milCloud 2.0 contract, General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) and VMware is making it possible for Defense Department agencies to simplify cloud adoption in three significant ways. The
first is by reducing the acquisition and procurement process to obtain cloud services. Second is streamlining the networking and security measures needed to establish a cloud environment and connection. Third is lowering the cost of refactoring applications and workloads for a specific cloud environment.
milCloud 2.0 is connected to the DOD network and located on military bases behind what we refer to as gates, guards and guns. milCloud 2.0 is a fit-for-purpose
cloud and the first of its kind to achieve FedRAMP High and DOD’s Impact Level
5 accreditation with a native on-demand VMware integration, which means mission partners can inherit security controls from DISA and milCloud 2.0 to quickly meet DOD’s stringent security standards and take full advantage of cloud technology. milCloud 2.0 also embraces the zero trust security model guidance with NSX, VMware’s network virtualization platform, and micro-segmentation.
In addition, the milCloud 2.0 contract is pre-competed and preapproved, so new users can consume cloud services on an hourly basis and be up and running in as few as 48 hours in some circumstances, compared
to the months or even years of traditional procurement methods.
Now, milCloud 2.0 is making it even
