It’s impossible to talk about information technology modernization without talking about cloud. Dave Levy, Vice President of U.S. Government, Nonprofit, and Healthcare Businesses at Amazon Web Services (AWS), a leading provider of on-demand cloud platforms, sets the stage for agencies to intelligently meet today’s requirements while getting a jump-start on tomorrow’s needs.
Q: How does cloud lay a foundation for agencies to be effective and efficient now and in the future?
A: Cloud offers government agencies the best technology available to fulfill their missions. It enables them to quickly develop and roll out new applications, scale up or down as needed, innovate faster, deploy globally, and achieve cost savings. Using cloud infrastructure also helps agencies ensure that their systems are resilient and secure. By eliminating the undifferentiated heavy lifting of the underlying information technology infrastructure, government agencies can focus on what’s most important: their missions.
Q: How does AWS support emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence?
A: AWS has more services and features than any other cloud provider. We’ve continued expanding our services to support virtually any cloud workload, and we now have more than 175 fully featured services. In addition to having the greatest breadth of services, AWS has the deepest functionality within those services.
We’ve also been innovating at a faster clip, especially in areas such as machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). Tens of thousands of customers are running ML on AWS, spurred by the broad adoption of Amazon SageMaker.
Q: How can AWS help agencies optimize
their use of the cloud?
A: AWS’ breadth of services and pricing options offer government agencies flexibility to effectively manage costs and still keep the performance and capacity they require. Plus, with resources such as AWS Professional Services and AWS Training and Certification, and services like Amazon CloudWatch and AWS Trusted Advisor, AWS supports agencies in optimizing their cloud experience wherever they are in their journey.
We also created the AWS Government Executive Education program, a four-day MBA-style course for government leaders that shares insights from previous government transformations.
