time objectives. No downtime can be afforded”.
Veeam helps organizations recover based on the thresholds they have
set for recovering their data and systems after an outage, Ruffin said. It also provides automated testing and dynamic documentation.
A solution called Instant VM Recovery® “allows me as the administrator to know I can recover from a failure,” Ruffin said. If a virtual machine or host falters, an organization can take the backup and present it to the hypervisor for availability. “It’s a very short downtime...and provides the customer an easy migration tool back into production.”
In addition, Veeam backup solutions give organizations peace of mind that their data will be protected in the cloud and on virtual and physical servers.
It also integrates with most common storage platforms, which is important for ransomware recovery.
“You can’t migrate or take advantage of new platforms until you’re sure your data is safe,” Reichard said.
Veeam supports monitoring and orchestration of the data and workloads and improves governance and compliance as organizations move to new platforms.
The products integrate well with numerous hypervisors and applications, and are hardware agnostic, which means they are flexible enough to work in various scenarios including on board a ship or out in the field.
For instance, the company provides
data protection to the data centers serving U.S. Navy surface ships and submarines. The data is protected when it is on the ship and also when it is replicated back to shore.
“We are a 100% hardware-agnostic solution that fits very easily into those existing environments without having to retrofit everything on a bunch of ships and submarines,” Reichard said.
The Air Force also relies on Veeam solutions to replicate and protect its data as part of its fly-way kits used for rapid deployment. These kits have to be rugged, resilient and be able to
backup local and mission data. “This can be an issue of life and
death,” Reichard said. The data has to be replicated and preserved in the field before the command moves locations. “The fact that Veeam is very efficient for replication and is really good at protecting data ... as a software-only solution is a critical feature for these customers”.
Ransomware defense
Veeam helps organizations backup, manage and recover their data after a ransomware attack whether it is located in a virtual or physical environment or in the cloud.
Veeam’s DataLabsTM solutions help reduce the risk of malware, enable DevOps and DevTest and mitigate and remediate compliance risks.
It features:
On-Demand SandboxTM: provides a fenced-off environment that
will allow the administrator or backup team to safely run tests on production virtual machines and run updates and patches.
SureBackup® and SureReplica: provides automated backup, replica and snapshot verification. These features give agencies the ability to verify the recovery of each backup and help them meet compliance requirements.
Staged restore: allows
organizations to remove sensitive data stored on a virtual machine prior to restoring it to production.
Secure restore: ensures there are no viruses in the backup data before it is restored to production.
Veeam also offers various storage options to safeguard data including, offline storage such as tape or removable disk, replicated virtual machines, primary storage snapshots and the ability to move data to another data center or to the cloud.
A new capability called Immutable Backups, allows agencies to move backups to the cloud and make them immutable so that they can’t be deleted or encrypted.
“That way we know from
a rebuild standpoint, if I am compromised on-prem, my data, whether back-up copy or archive, is immutable. It can’t be accessed at the destination site,” said Ruffin.
