Protecting
high-value assets
Managed security services can help agencies become more proactive in defending their systems

IN THE PAST 12 months, the number of database vulnerabilities that had to be patched increased by 25 percent, according to Trustwave’s 2019 Global Security
Report, and over 8 percent of those vulnerabilities were related to unauthorized access or manipulation of sensitive data on high- value assets.
In the simplest terms, such assets are government systems
or data whose wrongful access, misuse or destruction would significantly impact the United States’ national security. Over the years, the Office of Management and Budget has refined the definitions of such assets to help agencies identify and protect them. The categories — Informational, Mission Essential and Federal Civilian Enterprise Essential — have changed the way many agencies think about high-value assets.
Global reach with a local focus
The cyberthreat landscape is changing too fast and adversaries have too much manpower for the government to protect its systems on its own because agencies are having difficulty scaling the way a managed security service provider can.
The government faces a critical shortage of cybersecurity professionals, and the problem is likely to continue growing. Fortunately, agency leaders have already begun moving away from the old capital investment model and now routinely ask about managed services options because they want to take full advantage of leading-edge technologies and solutions that don’t require in- house expertise.
Companies like Trustwave can quickly make an impact by offering high-level cybersecurity expertise with a global reach and a local focus on an individual agency’s mission, the environment it must defend, the security solutions it uses and the applications those solutions protect.
When you couple that local focus with near-real-time threat intelligence, agencies achieve a level of visibility into their networks that they never had before.
Our government clients cannot afford to wait for a red blinking light to tell them their systems have been breached. They need to shift from being reactive to proactive about security so that we can identify potential incidents before the light turns red.
Evolving to meet future security needs
We’re all striving for better resilience, faster response and less mission impact. However, technology leaders in government are being tasked to be more efficient and do more with less, while the pace of technology developments and the cyber skills shortage continue to accelerate.
As a trusted government partner in managed security services, we are evolving as well so that we can meet agencies’ requirements today while preparing them to tackle new requirements as they arise.
