Wrestling with the right challenges
At its core, agile development is about moving quickly, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re moving quickly in the right direction. To keep agile techniques on track, they must be paired with other disciplines, such as user-centered design.
In short, modern software must align with the mission and with the user’s needs. The
challenge is finding the right solution that meets both sets of demands.
All aspects of an agency can benefit from wrestling with those challenges. Modernization requires us to constantly learn and face new challenges, but we will succeed if we measure the right things, collaborate with one another, test hypotheses and learn from them.
It has been a privilege to help the Air
Force create a collaborative, open-feedback environment that we can all learn from. The most important goal is impacting the mission in the right ways, saving lives and protecting our country. If we can all agree on that, then the challenges we wrestle with every day will be worth it.
