Drones
CBP has a fleet of nine unarmed Predator drone aircraft that monitor activity along both the southern and northern borders. The Border Patrol is exploring how handheld drones can help agents with mapping and video surveillance, and the Department of Homeland Security’s Robotic Aircraft Sensor Program – Borders (RASP-B) hopes to use drones to identify people and vehicles from above, track flying objects and collect data on active shooters.
Integrated Fixed Towers
Dozens of radar- and camera-laden towers up to 180 feet tall have been constructed along the U.S.-Mexico border, and are connected to a central command post. Remote Video Surveillance Systems offer similar coverage elsewhere along the border, and truck-mounted Mobile Surveillance Capability towers can be positioned to cover blind spots.
