Washington College Offers Bucks for Birders
Marking the 20th anniversary of the Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory and the Year of the Bird, Washington College in Chestertown, MD, has announced a new scholarship for students who are interested in the science and study of birds. The Washington College Ornithology Scholar- ship will be awarded to two students in
the incoming class of 2023, providing each $1,500 a year for four years.
The scholarship will help students take advantage of the unique opportunities that Washington College offers in birding and ornithology at Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory. The only observatory of its kind on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Fore- man’s Branch (www.washcoll.edu/birds) is one of the few places where undergraduate students can receive long-term, hands-on training in the technical skills needed for ornithology studies.

Castleton Announces
Early Childhood Initiative
The newly launched Early Childhood Lab at Castleton University in Castleton, VT, will be a childcare center that provides educational opportunities for future
early childhood educators, employment for current early childhood educators,
and a host of collaborative opportunities across curriculum, across campuses, and throughout the state.
“This new initiative will likely lead to the creation of an early childhood education pro-
gram and create yet another direct pathway between Community College of Vermont (CCV) and Castleton,” says Castleton Univer- sity President Dr. Karen M. Scolforo.
According to Scolforo, the lab will be a hallmark of a collaborative, experiential learning model, allowing CCV graduates a
seamless transition to a bachelor’s degree while also offering a complete four-year program.
In the planning stages since early in the spring semester, Castleton has identified an on-campus site for the center and has begun to explore and apply for funding through several grants. CPM
