academic and cultural experience; how- ever, athletics play an important role in
the campus environment. The university challenged itself to develop a first-class Student Athlete Center that would not only benefit the student athletes, but also the entire campus, alumni, supporters, and the St. Charles, MO, community. The challenge was to keep academics at the core and pre- pare the students for game time... and life.
The Student Athlete Center serves 17,000 students and was a key part of the univer- sity’s long-term planning strategy. The three-story, 45,000-square-foot building is attached to the football stadium and gathers the outdoor sports teams into a central loca- tion. The building’s design is focused on be- ing the hub for the football, soccer, lacrosse,
rooms, study areas, athletic offices, and space for events. Plus, the building is home to the Academic Success Center which
was developed to accommodate the hectic schedules of student athletes of all sports, providing them a convenient space to study or meet with a tutor close to where they practice, train, and play.
Lindenwood chose National Office Fur- niture to provide furniture solutions for the Student Athlete Center. They utilized National in meeting and event spaces, three lobbies,
17 private offices, 16 open stations, six locker rooms, and an expansive library/study space.

“The project went very smoothly over- all, and National’s reliability and quality played a key part in that,” says Jane Baum, athletic development director.

SConnected Waste Receptacles Enhance Efficiency
MART, CONNECTED PHONES, nuisance, for sure—while others sit empty, watches, thermostats, and even yet are collected anyway. Victor Stanley’s
refrigerators (to name just a few innovative approach allocates collection

of technology. In fact, our culture’s epic shift toward “The Internet of Things,” as
it’s known, is in full swing. Victor Stanley,
a leading designer and manufacturer of premium site furnishings, has introduced
a new generation of connected, intelligent waste receptacles. They’re smart enough, in fact, to save an estimated 40 percent on litter and recycling collection expenses each year.
Mr. Patrick Harrity, Rutgers University’s director of Grounds & Fleet Operations, ad- opted the new waste management system in an effort to initiate “less time spent on trash bin dumping labor and less trash bag usage.”
Traditional waste management allows for receptacles to overfill before they are collected—an aesthetic and olfactory
resources where and when they are needed. It turns out these smart receptacles save not only time, but also decrease fuel costs and carbon footprints.
Using GPS in conjunction with other sen- sors, the receptacles continuously monitor and transmit fill levels, while also conveying temperatures, weights, and other environ- mental data to a custom online platform. Monitoring of containers provides a holistic view of an area’s trash and recycling status, and improves landfill diversion.
Campuses can employ networks of con- nected receptacles that enable collection plan- ning and routing that is substantially more effcient. To maintain aesthetics and prevent vandalism, Victor Stanley’s sensors are hidden within their litter receptacles or recycling sta-

tions. Mr. Harrity is pleased with the seamless integration, noting that Relay “matches all our other receptacles.” Victor Stanley Relay is available for new receptacles and as a retrofit fortheirside-doorreceptacles. CPM
