provide housing for MCCC students. Through the agreement, MCCC students
can select to live on campus at Gwynedd Mercy for the same room and board rates that university students pay. MCCC is fewer than four miles from the university, located in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
According to Philip Needles, vice president for student services at MCCC, the college receives inquiries each year, especially from international students and culinary arts students, about the availabil- ity of student housing.
Currently, MCCC serves 178 interna- tional students from 51 different countries, especially in programs such as culinary arts and business. International students who have enrolled at MCCC in the past have had to seek off-campus housing in the area, which can be cost-prohibitive.
MCCC hopes to increase enrollment
by providing student housing at Gwynedd Mercy, but the housing option will be open to all students who choose to experience that aspect of college life.
WIT’s Library
Wins Design Award
A renovation of the Wentworth Institute of Technology Douglas D. Schumann Library & Learning Commons, designed by Perkins+Will, has been recognized
with the Best Education Award from IIDA (International Interior Design Association) of New England.
The new Schumann Library & Learn- ing Commons provides a memorable space and heart at the center of the Boston- based Wentworth Campus. This mostly open library space is an evolution of the traditional library, supporting a learning commons, a reading room, a tech sandbox
and a café. Smaller group study rooms have replaced former large study rooms, while individual staff office space has shifted to an open workplace environment.
This transformation reflects the chang- ing role of campus libraries. No longer are they purely quiet zones, but are instead
vibrant places that provide teaching and training to both students and faculty. A reduction in print collections, made pos- sible by an increase in online collections, coupled with new high-density storage provides more space to accommodate the needs of this modern library. CPM
